Choosing your calibration provider can feel like an overwhelming task. We have developed this checklist based off the most commonly asked questions from customers.

What type of calibration do you need?
  • Are you accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2005?
  • Who is your accreditation body?
  • What is the Scope of accreditation?
  • How many disciplines can they calibrate?
  • On-site calibrations: What type of problems might arise from bringing in a calibration vendor?
  • Does the vendor charge extra for onsite service?
  • What amount of downtime can you handle?
  • Will they schedule a calibration in advance of receiving the instrument to minimize down time?
  • Will it make a difference when deciding what calibration vendor to use?
  • How do you want data coming back to you from the calibration vendor?
  • Is the organization capable of providing electronic transmission?
  • What types of data storage transfer options are available?
  • Do you require a hard copy?
  • Will you provide Certificate Conformance, which considers the measurement uncertainty? (ILAC P14)
  • Uncertainty statements on the Calibration Certificate, what does it mean?
  • Will you summit to an audit of you Lab by my audit Team?
  • Are the UNC budget & procedure available for review?
  • On-site calibrations: What type of problems might arise from bringing in a calibration vendor?
  • Can the company help project your annual calibration costs, i.e. doing it yourself as opposed to their program?
  • Will better measurements result in greater profits or are you attempting to satisfy an ISO quality requirement?
